How to Buy a VIP Mobile Number Safely

Last updated: By Noushad, Kerala Fancy Number

Buying a fancy or VIP mobile number in India is straightforward when you know what a genuine process looks like. This guide explains each step, what your invoice should contain, the warning signs of a fake seller, and what to check before you pay.

How buying a VIP number works in India

  1. Choose a number from a seller's listed catalogue and confirm availability and price before paying.
  2. Pay the confirmed price. With Kerala Fancy Number this is by UPI or bank transfer to the business.
  3. Receive the Unique Porting Code (UPC). The number moves to you through Mobile Number Portability (MNP), so you need a UPC to request the port. We send it within 2–24 hours after payment.
  4. Visit an authorised operator store (Jio, Airtel, Vi or BSNL) with the UPC and your original Aadhaar. The store completes e-KYC with a live photograph and submits the port or activation request.
  5. Activation: Jio Prepaid is instant after KYC and the request; other networks take 3–5 working days; BSNL takes 7 working days. Overall, expect roughly 3–7 working days except for instant Jio Prepaid.

What a proper invoice includes

  • The seller's business name, address and contact details.
  • The exact mobile number you bought.
  • The amount paid, payment method and date.
  • An invoice or reference number you can quote if you need help later.

Red flags to watch for

  • Anyone asking for your OTP. A genuine seller never needs it — not for payment, porting or KYC.
  • Requests to pay to a personal UPI ID or a QR code sent outside the seller's official channel.
  • No UPC and no invoice after payment.
  • The SIM is already registered in someone else's name and you are told to "just use it".
  • A price far below what similar numbers sell for elsewhere.

Checklist before you pay

  • Have you confirmed the exact number and price in writing (for example on WhatsApp)?
  • Do you know which network it will be activated on, and the activation time for that network?
  • Will the number be registered in your own name (or a family member's) through official KYC?
  • Does the seller have a real address and reviews you can check independently?
  • Do you know when you will receive the UPC and invoice?
  • Do you understand the refund policy if activation is not completed?

Refunds and transfer help

With Kerala Fancy Number, if activation is not completed within 7 working days after KYC and the activation request, we refund the number price, processed within 2 working days, excluding Sundays and public holidays.
